Dr. Melinda Johnson has lived and worked in the Waco area since 2009. Originally from Shreveport, Louisiana, Dr. Johnson attended Louisiana State University. She graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and a minor in Mathematics. After a few years as a research associate at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, Dr. Johnson found her calling in helping people with vision problems.
She relocated to Memphis, Tennessee, to study at Southern College of Optometry. She completed her externships at the prestigious Steen-Hall Eye Institute in Shreveport, Louisiana. Upon graduation, Dr. Johnson was awarded for Outstanding Clinical Achievement in the field of Low Vision Care, assisting patients with severe eye disease and limited vision to improve their quality of daily life.
While practicing in Waco Dr. Johnson volunteered her time to provide eye exams for local residents who were struggling. She worked with Mission Waco and with the national Optometry Cares Program. In 2015 Dr. Johnson was recognized by the American Optometric Association for her dedication to helping others.
When she is not working, Dr. Johnson enjoys being outdoors, cooking, birding, and is attempting to learn to play guitar. Mostly, she likes to stay home and spend time with her husband and their cats, all watching the birds from the windows
